Built by Everactive and Qualcomm, the EH-EVK is a development platform that can harvest energy from ambient light to self-power the system, provide multi-modal sensing data, and communicate wirelessly through Wi-Fi as an internet-connected edge device.
Purposely-built to support a diverse application space — including smart home automation, security cameras/door locks, environmental or industrial sensing, and large scale infrastructure and asset monitoring — the kit provides developers with the flexibility to target entirely battery-less "install, forget, and forever function" devices, as well as battery-assisted use cases to dramatically extend battery lifetimes or minimize battery sizes. The technology’s key differentiation lies in its dynamic, ambient-light harvesting and ultra low-power intelligent circuitry, which enables the system to automatically adjust its behavior based on environmental conditions to optimize both energy and performance. This allows developers to eliminate the traditional "maintenance trap" of frequent battery replacements, reduce hazardous waste, and achieve continuous regulatory compliance.

Everactive has the world’s lowest-power receiver, integrated into the PKS3000 in the EH-EVK. Enable this feature on your EH-EVK and start designing edge devices with instant wake-up and microwatt-level standby power.
To enable the wake-up receiver, download and install the PKS3000 firmware on the Everactive shield board. Once activated, the Wi-Fi system can remain in a deep-sleep state and wake only when needed, dramatically reducing standby power consumption.

The Technologies
Architecturally, the hardware system leverages Qualcomm’s ultra-low power QCC730 WiFi chip paired with Everactive's PKS3000 (Snowbird) chip running its proprietary Energy OS. The integrated development stack features a highly flexible multi-board setup consisting of the QCC730 devkit, the PKS3000 shield board (which manages the system's power model and onboarding of multiple environmental, gas, and motion sensors), and a swappable PV layer board that lets developers choose between high-efficiency, flexible organic, or economy photovoltaic cells depending on their specific target application.
